Sanji (サンジ, Sanji), born as Vinsmoke Sanji (ヴィンスモーク・サンジ, Vinsumōku Sanji) and also known as "Black Leg" Sanji (黒足のサンジ, Kuro Ashi no Sanji), is a fictional character in the One Piece franchise created by Eiichiro Oda.

A native to the North Blue, Sanji grew up as part of the Vinsmoke family under his father Vinsmoke Judge, king of the Germa Kingdom, and mother Vinsmoke Sora.[4] His father after his kingdom's fall, dreamed of regaining their long lost glory by creating the best scientific army, using his expertise as a scientist. Blinded by the pursuit of power, he even experimented on his five children,= (one girl and four boys), which included Sanji. However, amongst them, only Sanji did not develop powers, making the experimentation on him a failure. This resulted in his other siblings, especially his brothers, bullying him. Also, his father resented Sanji for the same reason and favored his other siblings as they were a "success". Living under a grueling father who only saw Sanji as a failure, he escapes to the Baratie, through the help of his sister, where he learns to cook under "Red Foot" Zeff[5] and learns his fighting style, which is characterized by the use of legs in combat. Although his demeanor mostly consist of him being calm and collected, he is also shown to have a heavy attraction to beautiful women, as exemplified via the hearts in his eyes. Sanji is the fifth member and the fourth to join Monkey D. Luffy's pirate crew as the cook, following the battle against Don Krieg.
